  • 03 MAY 2012 - VEKOL VALLEY, RURAL PINAL COUNTY, AZ:   Vehicle barriers on Bureau of Land Management land south of Interstate 8 and west of Casa Grande in rural Pinal County. The area has been a hotbed of illegal immigrant and drug smuggling for years. The BLM has undertaken a series of "surges" in the area, increasing their law enforcement patrols and partnering with Border Patrol and Pinal County Sheriff's Department officers to reduce criminal activity in the area. The BLM put in the vehicle barriers to stop immigrant and drug smugglers who were driving through the desert to reach Phoenix.   • 18 NOVEMBER 2010 - PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI: Patients in a Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF - Doctors Without Borders) cholera stabilization center in Cite Soliel in Port-au-Prince. Cite Soleil, a sprawling slum area in PAP is ground zero for the cholera epidemic in the Haitian capital. An outbreak of cholera in northern Haiti about a month ago has spread across the nation. Tens of thousands of people have been hospitalized and treated for cholera and more than 1,100 have died.   • 19 AUGUST 2010 --  HOOVER DAM, AZ: Gus Gomez and Arturo Caro (L to R) work on the Hoover Dame bypass bridge. Construction work is continuing on the Hoover Dam bypass bridge. The Colorado River Bridge is the central portion of the Hoover Dam Bypass Project. Construction on the nearly 2,000 foot long bridge began in late January 2005 and the completion of the entire Hoover Dam Bypass Project is expected in late 2010.  When completed, this signature bridge will span the Black Canyon (about 1,500 feet south of the Hoover Dam), connecting the Arizona and Nevada Approach highways nearly 900-feet above the Colorado River.   • 28 JANUARY 2010 -- BUCKEYE, AZ: Undocumented immigrant inmates are searched and handcuffed by ICE officers before boarding an ICE bus at Lewis Prison. The Arizona Department of Corrections transferred 51 undocumented immigrant inmates from state control to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Lewis Prison in Buckeye Thursday morning.   • 24 JANUARY 2010 -- WENDEN, AZ:  Jose Montes, (CQ) a 14 year resident of Wenden, cleans the front of his home. During a break he said, "This is a lot of work for one person." Wenden was slammed by its second 100 year flood in 10 years on Thursday night when water raced through Centennial Wash and into the small town in La Paz County west of Phoenix.   • 30 DECEMBER 2009 -- PHOENIX, AZ:  Mackenzie Saunders (CQ) heads to her physical therapy at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix Wednesday. Mackenzie was knocked down by another player during a soccer game. She finished the game but later in the day her legs started hurting and her parents took her to a hospital. Three hospitals later, she was in St. Joseph's with a diagnosis of a swollen spine and she couldn't walk. Now she's in physical therapy.   • 31 JULY 2009 --  BUCKEYE, AZ: Cows wait to be auctioned off at the auction on the former Pylman Dairy Farm in Buckeye. The auction was handled by Overland Stockyards from Hanford, CA. The Arizona dairy industry is struggling to survive the worst milk economy some have ever seen. Due to the global recession, overseas demand for Arizona dairy products has plummeted, forcing prices down while production costs have stayed stable or gone up. About 25 protestors opposed to the US led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to visited the Phoenix office of Sen John McCain Friday morning to ask the Senator to vote against confirming General Stanley McChrystal (CQ) as commander of US forces in Afghanistan. The protestors cited McChrystal's alleged involvement of the true circumstances behind the death of former Arizona Cardinal Pat Tillman in Afghanistan and torture of detainees in Iraq.   • 05 JUNE 2011 - GREER, AZ: Albert Silva shears sheep at the Sheep Springs Sheep Co summer shearing camp northwest of Greer. Mark Pedersen (CQ), of Sheep Springs Sheep Co, said they drove about 2,000 sheep from Chandler up to their summer pastures near Greer. They were supposed to start shearing on Friday, but didn't start till Friday because of the Wallow Fire. They also run cattle on land southeast of the sheep pasture, closer to Greer. Pedersen said they were prepared to move both the cattle and the sheep if they had to. He said the biggest problem with the smoke was that it bothered the sheeps' lungs much the same way it bother people's lungs. The fire grew to more than 180,000 acres by Sunday with zero containment.   • 18 NOVEMBER 2010 - PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI:  Dr. Juliette Olivier, a Haitian physician with Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF - Doctors Without Borders) starts an IV on a cholera patient in a MSF cholera stabilization center in Cite Soliel in Port-au-Prince. Cite Soleil, a sprawling slum area in PAP is ground zero for the cholera epidemic in the Haitian capital. An outbreak of cholera in northern Haiti about a month ago has spread across the nation. Tens of thousands of people have been hospitalized and treated for cholera and more than 1,100 have died.   • 21 SEPTEMBER 2010 - PHOENIX, AZ: Phoenix Detective Mark Rao (CQ LEFT WITH RIFLE) covers a hallway while officers secure a home in central Phoenix Tuesday. They arrested three of the four people in the home on drugs and weapons charges. Crime has steadily dropped in Phoenix over the past few years, in line with national trends. The latest number released this month showed Phoenix reported fewer 2010 homicides, rapes, robberies, thefts - in addition to other major crimes -- compared with the same time period the previous year.   • 19 AUGUST 2010 --  HOOVER DAM, AZ: A crane on the bridge deck. Construction work is continuing on the Hoover Dam bypass bridge. The Colorado River Bridge is the central portion of the Hoover Dam Bypass Project. Construction on the nearly 2,000 foot long bridge began in late January 2005 and the completion of the entire Hoover Dam Bypass Project is expected in late 2010.  When completed, this signature bridge will span the Black Canyon (about 1,500 feet south of the Hoover Dam), connecting the Arizona and Nevada Approach highways nearly 900-feet above the Colorado River.   • 30 DECEMBER 2009 -- PHOENIX, AZ: Mackenzie Saunders (CQ) in her bed at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix Wednesday. Mackenzie was knocked down by another player during a soccer game. She finished the game but later in the day her legs started hurting and her parents took her to a hospital. Three hospitals later, she was in St. Joseph's with a diagnosis of a swollen spine and she couldn't walk. Now she's in physical therapy.   • 31 JULY 2009 --  BUCKEYE, AZ: An unused milking machine in a the milking barn on the former Pylman Dairy Farm in Buckeye. The auction was handled by Overland Stockyards from Hanford, CA. The Arizona dairy industry is struggling to survive the worst milk economy some have ever seen. Due to the global recession, overseas demand for Arizona dairy products has plummeted, forcing prices down while production costs have stayed stable or gone up.   • 03 MAY 2012 - VEKOL VALLEY, RURAL PINAL COUNTY, AZ:   Trash left behind by smugglers near I-8 on Bureau of Land Management land south of Interstate 8 and west of Casa Grande in rural Pinal County. The area has been a hotbed of illegal immigrant and drug smuggling for years. The BLM has undertaken a series of "surges" in the area, increasing their law enforcement patrols and partnering with Border Patrol and Pinal County Sheriff's Department officers to reduce criminal activity in the area.
