StreetCarnival

29 OCTOBER 2015 - YANGON, MYANMAR: A human powered Ferris Wheel during a street carnival in central Yangon. Electricity is scarce in Myanmar, especially in rural areas, and most traveling carnivals use human powered rides. Workers climb to the top of the Ferris Wheel and then pull it around getting it spinning. They do the same with Merry Go Rounds, but instead of climbing to the top they pull it around. The carnival coincided with the Thadingyut Festival, the Lighting Festival of Myanmar, which is held on the full moon day of the Burmese Lunar month of Thadingyut, October or November on the Gregorian calendar. The carnival featured food, rides and games. PHOTO BY JACK KURTZ
