16 JULY 2020 - BOONE, IOWA: CAMRYN ASKELSEN, 12, grooms her sheep on the first day of the Boone County Fair in Boone. Summer is county fair season in Iowa. Most of Iowa’s 99 counties host their county fairs before the Iowa State Fair. In 2020, because of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, many county fairs were cancelled, and most of the other county fairs were scaled back to concentrate on 4H livestock judging. Boone county scaled back its fair this year. The Iowa State Fair was cancelled completely. Boone County Emergency Management did not approve going ahead with the fair, and has advised anyone who goes to the fair to take precautions and monitor themselves for symptoms of the Coronavirus.
