05 JUNE 2015 - KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: The main entrance to Sri Mahamariamman Temple, the oldest functioning and most important Hindu temple in Malaysia. The principal deity in the temple is Mariamman, a deity that is popularly worshipped by overseas Indians, especially Tamils, because she is looked upon as their protector during the sojourn to foreign lands. Mariamman is a manifestation of the goddess Parvati, an incarnation embodying Mother Earth with all her terrifying force. She is associated with disease and fever and protects her devotees from unholy or demonic events. PHOTO BY JACK KURTZ
