24 JUNE 2014 - BANGKOK, THAILAND: General THANASAK PATIMAPAKORN, Deputy Head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), the ruling Military junta in Thailand (center, red striped tie) in the opening ceremony of the 6th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR). The AMCDRR started in Bangkok on June 24. The first of the biennial conferences was held in Beijing in 2005 after the 2004 Asian Tsunami and H5N1 Bird Flu epidemic of 2004. The conference this year in Bangkok will focus on possible disasters related to climate change, sustainable development, and managing public private partnerships for disaster risk.
