NewYearTemples

30 DECEMBER 2017 - BANG KRUAI, NONTHABURI, THAILAND: People pray during a resurrection ceremony at Wat Ta Khien, about 45 minutes from Bangkok in Nonthaburi province. The temple is famous for the "floating market" on the canal that runs past the temple and for the "resurrection ceremonies" conducted by monks at the temple. After the prayer, they lie in a coffin and ritualistically die before being reborn. Adherents believe it will improve their karma and help make up for past sins. PHOTO BY JACK KURTZ
