22 OCTOBER 2015 - YANGON, MYANMAR: A Hindu girl stands in the doorway of Sri Kali temple in Yangon on the last day of Navratri. Navratri, literally "nine nights" is a Hindu festival devoted to the Goddess Durga. Navratri festival combines ritualistic puja (prayer) and fasting. Navratri in India follows the lunar calendar and is celebrated in September/October as Sharad Navratri. It's widely celebrated in countries in Southeast Asia that have large Hindu communities, including Myanmar (Burma). Many of Myanmar's Hindus are descendants of Indian civil servants and laborers who came to Myanmar when it was the British colony of Burma. PHOTO BY JACK KURTZ
