The emergency pantry at DSM First Church expanded from distribution one day a week to three days per week after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of many Iowa businesses. Food banks and emergency pantries in Iowa continue to see increased demand for services, even though the governor is reopening the state's economy. Iowa's unemployment rate for April hasn't been released yet, but based on national trends, it is expected to soar to well over 10% from 3.8& in March. COVID-19 infections continue to skyrocket.
