ImmigrantHungerStrike

29 JANUARY 2007 -- PHOENIX, AZ: Marisela Flores prays before starting a seven day fast in Phoenix in support of immigration reform. At least 18 immigrants' rights activists started a fast Monday in Phoenix to protest US immigration policy and the number of undocumented immigrants who die trying to enter the United States. The protest was organized by Elias Bermudez, an immigrants' rights activist in Phoenix. Bermudez said "We believe that the president of the United States can now, instead of just talking about the problem, deal with the problem and do something about it." The fast will last seven days, until Monday, February 5. Photo by Jack Kurtz/ZUMA Press
