07 JULY 2013 - NARATHIWAT, NARATHIWAT, THAILAND: Thai Muslim women eat frozen snacks provided by Royal Thai Marines in Narathiwat Sunday. Royal Thai Marines in Narathiwat province held a special ceremony Sunday in advance of Ramadan. They presented widows, orphans and indigent people with extra rice and food as a part of the Thai government's outreach to resolve the Muslim insurgency that has wracked southern Thailand since 2004. The Holy Month of Ramadan starts on about July 9 this year. Muslims are expected to fast from dawn to dusk, engage in extra prayers, recitation of the Quran and perform extra acts of charity during Ramadan. It is the holiest month of the year for Muslims.
