After the vigil some people picketed the Des Moines police station. There have been protests against police violence across the country after the video of Minneapolis police officer killing Floyd was released.

19 imagesUS Marine Corps Private Channing Whitaker joined the Marines at age 17 in 1942. He died less than a year later during the Battle of Tarawa in the South Pacific. His remains were recovered earlier this year, his identity confirmed by a DNA match with a family member, and his body returned to the US. On November 22, 2019, exactly 76 years after he died, he was reburied in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

It's called "the Great Minnesota Get Together" and includes numerous agricultural exhibits, a vast midway with rides and games, horse shows and rodeos. Nearly two million people a year visit the fair, which is located in St. Paul.
