A historic market town on the spice trail between India and China, Boudhanath has been absorbed into Kathmandu. The Nepalese Buddhist community become a Tibetan Buddhist community, as Tibetans fleeing Chinese persecution moved to Nepal. On the full moon night of every month thousands of people make a pilgrimage to the Stupa for a procession around the sacred site.
